awk!
There is a galah in my living room.

I'm a little baffled. I only noticed the bird cage after I'd been home a while - I lifted the cover expecting a budgie or at most a cockatiel or something, and was really startled when I came eye to eye with a giant pink bird. My sister has obviously aquired it somehow, but she's not awake so I can't find out what on earth is going on. I'm guessing it's on loan only... I adore birds but we're not exactly set up to take care of something like this long-term - we're rather lacking in the aviary department.

It's in a small cage for its size, although it looks very healthy - I have no idea if it's injured wildlife or a pet. I'm so very very curious - why do we have a random parrot?! There must be a story behind this. I hope it's just being rehabilitated, because it's a beautiful bird, but I've always felt pretty bad about large parrots in captivity - it seems unfair to me.

Does anyone else ever come home to surprise exotic pets, or am I just lucky...?

I came home once and saw a centipede, but I can't say I ever had a feathered type visitor before.

That, is definitely unique. :)

Centipedes are just so... odd. They seem too streamlined to me (what a weird thing to think, haha!).

But yes - yay Australian wildlife! I'll post pics soon, hopefully.

I read this as "there is a gala in my living room."

e: A look on wiki tells me that we just call them cockatoos, I guess? They are cute, though!

I miss having birds.

Birds are adorable, I love them - although I think many people don't realise how time-consuming they can be...

We tend to think of these ones as cockatoos, but I think galah is a very very Australian word, hah.

I shall! I've taken some this morning but my camera is being cantankerous. I'll get 'em up as soon as I can!

Surprise! Bird owner. Galahs are probably lots harder to take care of than cockatiels! They have a nastier bite for starters...

where did you get an up-close icon of Bear Leisure? Are there good pics for all of the tWEWY pins?

I think Arabel actually gave it to me, it's a ginormous image of ALL the pins. I can't actually find that version, but this one has fairly big images:

I knowwwwwww. =_= I'm so worried, I don't think she completely realises the effort involved (although she knows it's not an easy pet). I never even totally realised until I hung 'round Wander. I've organised a visit to your bird vet to let us know alllll about it - I'm hoping she'll realise that I don't think we can give it the care it deserves, as much as I want my own Giant Wander from being around you guys.

Haha~ :D How cute! When we used to live up on the northern beaches, I once woke up to a peacock pecking on my window. And another time I came to a little possum had curled up in my bed, on my hot water bottle. It was snuggled under the blankets and everything. :3
