Staaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand and deliver!

1 hr 30 mins oekaki, my first in practically FOREVER, so out of practice!

I would like to be a dandy highwayman. Is there a training school? Are they accepting new recruits? Pls advise.

I've been contemplating office slang lately, and how much I've picked up. I'm now prone to saying that things are "super cute", which is art department slang. From the fashion team, I've gained the tendency to talk about things in the singular - "a tapered pant", or "a leather flat". And I thought this made sense, but I confused a number of people by relating the compliment I'd gotten, which was that I was looking very on-trend that day. That makes sense though, right... right?

Things like that always make me think of medical slang, which is mainly for the black-humoured...

Also randomly, does anyone out there use a Blackberry? Whassit like? I was vaguely considering getting the Bold (3G and thus not hideously slow internets), but do people have any general complaints about them that I should take into account before I decide to get one? I've read reviews, but I was just curious. Thaaaaaanks!

TRICORNE HAT!! I'd join your band just for the hat!

(Black or not, medical slang always amuses me. That, or I know too many doctors.)

If people don't like tricorne hats, I become suspicious, seriously. They are completely awesome.

And I love the slang too - it's what lead to me becoming obsessed with ambulance blogs! There's some really amusingly terrible ones...

Thanks so much, dood! It's funny, ever since Dave started drawing full-time, I get professional quality crits on everything I do. I did this and was like, "Look! :D", and he's all, "Good, but you need to clean up the background, and it needs more definition and detail in the face..." My face totally fell, but then I looked closer and he was right, and hey presto, much better drawing! It's like having art class in your bedroom. D:

That last paragraph is CLEARLY aimed at me, possibly to keep my interest after some boytoysketch? I'll bite!

The Bold is a good device, the main competitor is the iPhone so I'll lay down the differences:

Things in iPhone's favour:
It's on-trend
Enormous app store with more fart apps than you'll ever need
Touchscreen works well for browsing and music
Screen is bigger
Syncs up with a mac nicely

Things in Bold's favour:
Faux-leatherette rear panel!
Very businessy
Excellent keyboard
Cheap to run IF you have a corporate account
seriously the keyboard is so much better than the iPhone, writing an email on the iPhone is like wading through broken glass in comparison.

So much as I love my blackberry I'd have to say the Bold is not a consumer device unless you only want to write emails and SMS. For our work I always recommend BB over iPhone, but it's such a different situation.

I hope you read all of that, YOU WILL BE TESTED!

Hahaha, actually yeah, if that didn't catch your eye I was going to try to beg for your wisdom in chat, as I know you are the man with The Knowledge (TM).

The main thing for me is that I have the iPod Touch, and its keyboard DRIVES ME TO MADNESS. I tend to write long SMSes, and I tried replying to all these comments on the Touch, and lost it after three or so. And I've had the thing for a while, so it's not just noob rage.

And as I have the Touch, I already have some of the fun fripperies one would use an iPhone for, like apps, music and the like, and the ability to browse the net on wi-fi.

There are a few reasons I was considering the Bold over another smartphone/iPhone...

1. Battery life is reportedly pretty good? This is a problem with most smartphones, or so the reviews tell me - at least with things like the Tytyn II (terrible name...) and the Google Phone thingie (HTC Dream?), the few other phones I was considering. I hate worrying about phone battery constantly.

2. I worry that I would throw the iPhone out the window if I had to message on it regularly, from my experiences with the Touch - although it doesn't seem to bother other people I know? The lack of keyboard is kind of a deal-breaker for me, and the only other keyboarded phones have terribly battery life, or weird issues/missing features (Hi Google Phone) as above. I SMS a fair bit, and I'm really verbose. >_>;

3. I'm pretty sure I'm happy to do most of my intense browsing at home/at wi-fi spots with the Touch - the Bold screen seems decent enough for anything I'd need on the go (one hopes). I worry I'll waste a lot of time browsing randomly if I have too much net access - it's bad enough with the Touch as well as my laptop. I don't know if this sounds daft, but I know me and the internet...

Downsides for me would be the extra cost of the data plan (as I don't think work would pay for me to have one in these tough economic times etc etc etc - we're designers, we get nothing!), and possibly dodgy mac sync ability.

So yeah... I guess it kind of sounds like I've made my decision, hah. I guess I was just wondering if there was anything in particular that drove you batty about it, but it doesn't really sound like there is. I think you have brilliant points about it not being so consumer, but I think the Touch fills in some of the gaps for me, if that makes sense?

Man, if I do this, I'm going to be one of those obnoxious people with too many devices, aren't I? +_+

Ah yes, the battery life is really good, especially with the latest firmware. I was really disapointed with the iPhone battery life, I'm used to phones lasting more than one day without a recharge!

Hmm, I get your point about having a touch already... If you like I can show you the sync tool at hayase or whenever we meet next. I have a corporate account so everything syncs over the air for me, which is flippin' magic, but largely irrelevant for you!

Maybe you could look at getting a smaller BB like mine (an 8310)? The only other thing I didn't like about the Bold was the size, it has a nice screen, but I didn't need it for the text stuff that I do. Consumer BB plans are different, I think they try to hook you up with their own webmail or something, I haven't had experience with how that works... Maybe you don't care about email? There are nice apps for Gmail, Facebook and Flickr on BB.

One more thing: The camera is just OK on the BB, I expect that's not much of a factor though.

Sexy oekaki is sexy. <3

I miss you and your cool slang. That medical stuff is brilliant! So far I like "ADR" -> "Ain't doing it right" cos like "Nurr UR DOIN IT RONG" but with excellent uppity cultural cache. Let's face it, Internets slang in real life makes you appear actually retarded.

I have the Blackberry storm touch screen and I love mine it's the first one I have ever owned but its sure is nice 3G and eveything. I would say go to a store give yourself plenty of time and just play with them and do research on them off the net.

I'm so glad you are like, "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAH ADAM", otherwise we totally couldn't be friends or something.

And I myself am pretty sick of easy fashion, so maybe we're on the way...?

Um, yes. It's true.
